Q: What motivated the start of Project Lifesaver?
A: The motivation to start was frequent failure to locate those who wandered due to disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Autism or other cognitive disorders. We often didn’t locate them or located them too late to effect a rescue.
Q: How did you start this from nothing?
A: I researched. After learning of wildlife tracking, and felt this could be adapted to the locating of vulnerable lost subjects, cutting the time and manpower to effect rescues, I collected some donations purchased equipment to test the theory. After finding it could work I applied for funding from a local foundation and was granted a sum for startup.
Q: What was the first thing you did when founding this organization?
A: The first thing I did was develop training and operating standards so all participants would adhere to the same standards in operating.
Q: How did this program grow so rapidly?
A: I believe it grew from grassroots origins because it is effective and simple in operation.
